Victory Day celebrations in Maldives

On the 3rd of November 1988, Maldives faced a terrorist attack by a group of terrorists from Sri Lanka together with a group of Maldivians to overthrow the then government. It was successfully repulsed and after the failed attempt to take over, they fled from the country while some were arrested. Therefore, this day is celebrated annually as the victory day and declared a public holiday due to the significant importance of this victory to the nation.

Several celebrations take place each year on victory day across the island resorts along with national celebrations such as unveiling of November 3 memorial, victory day march, silent drill of the Defence forces, while prayers of thanksgiving are offered in most mosques. It is a special holiday season where tourist resort hotels organize many activities for the locals and visiting travelers to Maldives. Bungalows built over water and with ocean pools are ideal for a relaxing, undisturbed and unwinding stay during this holiday season and Anantara Veli Resort & Spa Maldives is one of the excellent choices to simply get a way in to a hideaway paradise island with turquoise waters that beckon from a choice of intimate accommodation bungalows, some with direct lagoon access.
