The 2016 Optimist Asian and Oceanian Championships at Trincomalee – Hoist the flags! It’s a sailor’s race

The 2016 Optimist Asian & Oceanian Championship was held in Trincomalee, Sri Lanka from May 28th to June 5th. The event was organized by the Yachting Association of Sri Lanka and was attended by participants from more than 20 countries, including; USA, Australia, Turkey, Indonesia, Oman, Thailand, Bahrain, UAE, Macau, Taipei. Individuals set sail to the Indian waters with Trinco Blu by Cinnamon in the distance, which provided a great view point of the event. Visitors to the event had a variety of Trincomalee hotels to choose from that would cater to their various needs and budget.

The 2016 event saw over 120 boats sailing through the blue waters off the Sri Lankan coast with steady winds helping the young sailors to compete in the great race. The overall winner of the 2016 Optimist Asian & Oceanian Championship was Mohamed Daniel Kei Yazid from Singapore.
