250 ASEAN Athletes Partake in Chiang Saen Triathlon Competition

The Chiang Rai Provincial Administration recently hosted a triathlon competition featuring over 250 ASEAN athletes. The meet was held at the Wiang sub-district in Chiang Saen district and saw the participants compete against each other by swimming, cycling and running through three ASEAN countries, Thailand, Myanmar and Laos. The race consisted of swimming 1.7km from the Mekong River bank to Wiang, cycling 53km to Mae Sai, running 12km to Tachileik and running back to the finish line at Mae Sai, a total of 71 km.

According to a Chiang Rai travel guide and other sources, the triathlon competition is expected to attract athletes from other parts of the world, paving way for Chiang Rai to become an integral tourism hub in ASEAN. This expected surge in tourism will result in resorts such as Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort welcoming more and more guests in time to come.
