94% of Resorts in Maldives to Reopen by October

Country Hopes for Tourism Revival

According to a recent announcement made by the Maldives Marketing and PR Corporation, 94% of resorts are expected to be opened by the end of October. The country officially removed travel restrictions on 15th July 2020 as the tourism industry relaunched following the closure of international borders due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Private luxury hotels and resorts in Maldives have been reopening since then in stages; next month, 46 more properties are set to open including Niyama Private Islands Maldives.

A premier luxury travel destination in the Indian Ocean, the Maldives and its tourism industry was severely affected due to the global pandemic which saw visitor numbers plummet. With the reopening of resorts and easing of travel restrictions along with stringent health and hygiene guidelines put in place, it is hoped that tourist arrivals will increase during the European winter season.
