South Korea Looking to Boost Inbound Tourism – Sets Goal of Welcoming 20m Tourists in 2024
With global tourism getting back on track, South Korea has been focusing its efforts on boosting inbound tourism. 2023 – 2024 has been announced as “Visit Korea Year” and interestingly, the nation has been looking to leverage the popularity of “K-culture” to attract more tourists. The signs have been positive and by the end of October, the country had recorded more than 8.5 million tourists, on track to achieve the year-end target of 10 million. The government is looking to ramp up its destination promotions regarding K-culture next year and has announced that it hopes to achieve a total of 20 million foreign arrivals in 2024.
This was put in the spotlight on The Korea Times news website on 13th November 2023 which also quoted Yoo In-chon, who took over as the Culture, Sports and Tourism Minister last month. Speaking at a press conference, he further revealed the need for the government to work with the lifestyle sector to draw travellers interested in the nation’s fashion, food, shopping, beauty, and fashion culture. Those looking to experience such aspects can do so in the capital, Seoul, where they can stay at centrally located hotels in Dongdaemun, a key area in the city; reasonably priced properties here like Travelodge Dongdaemun Seoul make an ideal base and provide easy access to the best of this cosmopolitan destination.
