China and Thailand Launch Mutual Visa-Free Travel: Efforts Undertaken to Boost Tourism Both Ways

In a significant move to revitalize their tourism industries, China and Thailand enacted a mutual visa-free agreement on Friday, March 8th, 2024. This policy streamlines travel for citizens of both nations, allowing visa-free entry for stays up to 30 days per visit. The agreement permits multiple entries within six months, with a total stay not exceeding 90 days.

The impact is already evident, with Thai travel bookings to China tripling on online platforms compared to the previous year. Popular destinations for Thai tourists include major Chinese cities like Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Beijing. This initiative is expected to significantly bolster Thailand’s tourism sector, especially for resorts in Krabi the likes of Avani+ Koh Lanta Krabi Resort. China has already regained its position as Thailand’s leading source of foreign tourists, with over 1.1 million arrivals in the first two months of 2024. Thailand ambitiously aims to attract 8 million Chinese tourists this year, doubling the 2023 figure when Malaysia held the top spot.
