Sri Lanka tourism turns up with 200,000 Indian Visitors – A rise in Southeast Asian travel to Ceylon

In early 2024, Sri Lanka’s tourism sector experienced a notable surge in Indian visitors, with close to 200,000 arrivals. The country’s tourism authorities have intensified efforts to tap into the Indian market, launching various initiatives to showcase Sri Lanka’s diverse attractions. A key event in this campaign was a networking event aboard a cruise on the Ganges in Kolkata in July 2024, attended by Indian travel agents, industry leaders, and Sri Lankan tourism officials. Here, the regions such as the hill country of Sri Lanka were showcased.

Sri Lanka’s tourism sector, the island’s third-largest revenue stream, is evolving beyond its traditional beach-centric appeal. The focus now includes sports, culture, spirituality, and history, supported by strategic B2B engagements and participation in global travel trade shows, where brands such as Cinnamon Air showcase their opportunities.
