Hajj Celebrated This Month in the Maldives – A Special Time for Muslims Across the World
This month, Muslims in the Maldives (and other countries around the world) observed Hajj Day. This sacred day fell on 6th June 2025, and not surprisingly for a Muslim nation, it was a public holiday as well. Interestingly, it is linked to the observance of Eid al Adha or “Feast of Sacrifice” in remembrance of the story of Abraham, who was willing to obey God when asked to sacrifice his son. As part of the traditions during this period, many devotees also make a pilgrimage to Mecca, Islam’s holiest city, where they participate in Hajj ceremonies.
During Hajj in the Maldives, locals could be observed attending mosque, engaged in prayer, and taking part in charitable acts, including helping those less fortunate. Of course, even though it was a holiday, the best beach resorts in Maldives, located on private islands, remained open, providing travellers with a chance to keep enjoying this tropical paradise. What’s more, properties like NH Collection Maldives Havodda Resort, which offer island-hopping excursions, provide an ideal way for guests to visit inhabited islands and discover the local culture during such events or festivals.
