Vesak Day in Bangkok – It’s not just about the lights and lanterns

Thais celebrate Vesak Day in May, and this commemorates the birth, enlightenment, and passing away of the Lord Buddha. 90% of the Thai community are Buddhists, and this day is a national holiday on the calendar. Thus, Thais look forward to celebrating Vesak every year, no matter how busy their lives are.

Buddhists visit temples early in the Morning to worship Buddha, Dhamma, and Sanga with auspicious prayers, and they believe this would bring them spiritual bliss. Those who stay at any Sathorn hotel in Bangkok the likes of Chatrium Residence Sathon Bangkok also can join the crowd and engage in these worshipping sessions if they wish, and later in the evening, they may join the city decorations as well. Locals love celebrating Vesak with lights, lamps, and lanterns and every city becomes so colourful with them on Vesak Day.
