There has been a significant increase in Dutch tourists to Sri Lanka following the relaxing of travel warnings by the government of the Netherlands on the 31st of May 2019.

Following the Easter Sunday terror attack, several countries that included the Netherlands announced travel advisories regarding their citizens visiting Sri Lanka. As a result, there was a quick decline of tourist arrivals to the country.

Tourists from the Netherlands increased from 24, 196 in 2014 to a record high of 51,160 in 2018. This was thanks to the lobbying efforts and vigorous promotions placed by the Sri Lankan Embassy in the Netherlands, Sri Lanka Tourism Bureau and the Sri Lankan Foreign Ministry.

Despite the drawbacks, Sri Lanka tour holidays remain a topic of interest to the Dutch who continue to show interest in tour operators like Holidays by Design.
