Anantara’s elephant polo tournament moves to Bangkok riverside

The annual King’s Cup elephant polo tournament was moved to Bangkok and was held on the banks of Bangkok’s Chao Praya River from 10th to 13th March this year. It was held near Anantara Riverside Bangkok Resort which is one of the trendy Bangkok resorts providing excellent luxury accommodation and was organised by the international hotel chain.

The event was held for the successive 14th time as a charitable tournament bringing together 10 teams that included Thai celebrities, professional polo players, New Zealand rugby players and Thailand’s famous transgender cabaret team and was able to raise a significant amount of money for Thai and international elephant charities.

The event had 18 trekking elephants taking part where they were given ample rest and relaxation on a scale and magnitude where they never would experience in their normal lives. Full veterinary checks were also performed on all the elephants during this time. Staying true to its reputation in conserving nature and animals, Anantara has so far rescued more than 40 elephants from the streets and provided them a normal life away from begging on streets.
