In the first eight months of 2023, Cambodia’s renowned Angkor Archeological Park witnessed an extraordinary influx of international tourists, marking a remarkable comeback in the post-Covid era. Angkor Enterprise, the state-owned entity overseeing the site, reported that 498,513 visitors explored the ancient wonders from January to August, reflecting an astonishing surge of 350.8% compared to the same period last year when the global travel landscape was heavily impacted by the pandemic.
The surge in August alone welcomed 59,148 foreigners, contributing $2.77 million to the thriving tourism economy. This robust recovery is attributed to the absence of travel restrictions, signifying a promising revival for Cambodia’s most cherished tourist destination, the UNESCO-listed Angkor Archeological Park, nestled in the enchanting northwest Siam Reap province. Visitors flocked to Cambodia to get the full Angkor experience, with a stay at a luxury boutique hotel in Siem Reap the likes of Anantara Angkor Resort being a significant part of the retreat.
