Angkor Sankranti Brings Flood of Tourists to Siem Reap – Celebrating A Cultural Heritage

Angkor Sankranti is an annual event in the Siem Reap region of Cambodia that is not only seen as a cultural highlight, but also one that attracts a large number of tourists to the area in search of accommodation. Held from 14th to 16th April, 2016 the event coincided with the Khmer New Year and was a popular draw for locals as well as foreigners on Siem Reap excursions during this period. Accommodation providers ranging from budget guesthouses to luxury resorts in the region benefited from this influx with many properties being fully booked. Those planning to discover the historic and cultural heritage of the area can keep doing so throughout the year with accommodation options such as Anantara Angkor Resort providing easy access to such sites as the Angkor Archaeological Park. As part of the festivities of Angkor Sankranti, visitors were able to witness traditional dances and games as well as artistic performances by young local talent.
