A national holiday in Myanmar, Armed Forces Day will be celebrated next month; on this day the country commemorates the start of the resistance by the National Army of then Burma against the occupation of the Japanese in 1945. Also known as Resistance Day, it falls on March 27th each year and features grand military parades showcasing the national military referred to as “Tatmadaw” including its various military hardware.
Apart from such military demonstrations, which are generally restricted to select invitees, Armed Forces Day is marked by smaller events such as live music performances and fireworks displays. These kinds of celebrations are popular in Yangon, the country’s former capital. Travellers visiting from abroad and staying at a hotel in Yangon in the city itself like Chatrium Hotel Royal Lake Yangon can look forward to witnessing some of these festivities.
