One of the biggest tourism success stories since the pandemic, the Maldives has continued to attract more travellers this year as well. In fact, as per statistics from the Ministry of Tourism, from 1st to 15th January 2023, the country recorded 81,772 arrivals and the figure was up 21.8% from the same period last year. During this time, the top source market was Russia, followed by Italy and India respectively.
It was further revealed that there were 1,212 tourist accommodations in this popular holiday destination including 168 resorts such as Adaaran Select Meedhupparu which provide an ideal private island escape. At such Maldives resorts, honeymoon getaways remain a popular choice for couples and it will be hoped that more travellers will be welcomed this year. After achieving its 2022 arrivals target of 1.6 million in 2022, the country is hoping to record 1.8 million tourists in 2023; if the beginning of the year is anything to go by, this goal is very much achievable.
