Asia is experiencing a rail tourism renaissance, with Indonesia emerging as a frontrunner. The recent launch of the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed rail service marks a significant milestone, positioning the country as ASEAN’s first high-speed rail nation. This development is set to revolutionise travel within the region, offering faster, more comfortable, and environmentally friendly transportation options.
The new rail line, equipped with Chinese-engineered “Whoosh” bullet trains, is expected to boost tourism, with travellers eager to experience the convenience of high-speed rail travel. As Indonesia expands its network, it is poised to become a major transportation hub in Southeast Asia, attracting both domestic and international visitors. Currently, plans for a light rail system in Bali are set to break ground this September, connecting the Ngurah Rai International Airport to areas further inland via an underground system. With the potential for further expansion on the island, tourists and expats staying at a two bedroom pool villa around the region’s upland may have an easier time getting to the resorts, such as at Anantara Ubud Bali Residences.
