Bali Arts Festival 2016 – A Fête of Culture and Tradition

The Bali Arts Festival 2016 is the 38th annual cultural event held at the Denpasar Art Centre from June 11th to July 9th, centred around the theme ‘Karang Awak : Cherishing the Home Island.’ The Centre was decorated in colourful traditional bamboo and coconut leaf decorations and banners. Visitors in Bali were treated to this enchanting festivity which involved a celebration of dances, traditional music and gamelan recitals, and handicraft & sculpture exhibitions. A cultural parade took to the streets which featured locals from Bali’s eight provinces in their distinct costumes performing various routines as they pass by.

The closing ceremony featured a traditional ballet performance known as sendratari. The Festival was a great way for tourists to learn about Balinese art and culture.
