Belarus and Sri Lanka Explore New Horizons: Unveiling the Path to Cultural Exchange and Tropical Retreats!

Representatives from Sri Lanka recently engaged in discussions with Belarusian tourism officials to strengthen bilateral tourism cooperation. Led by Minister-Envoy Pandula de Zoysa, the Sri Lankan delegation explored various avenues to enhance mutual tourist visits. These discussions included meetings with Belarusian tourism industry representatives and engagements with the Republican Union of Tourist Organisations (RUTO).

Key topics included the significant increase in Belarusian tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka, rising from 3,600 in 2022 to 11,000 in 2023. Challenges such as logistics and air transport were acknowledged as limiting factors hindering further growth, similar to experiences with Russia where direct flights significantly boosted tourist numbers.

Efforts are underway to facilitate easier travel between Belarus and Sri Lanka, including discussions on visa exemptions for Belarusian travellers. Sri Lanka also launched a new E-visa portal to streamline visa applications. The negotiations also addressed visa issues faced by Sri Lankan citizens wishing to visit Belarus, particularly parents of students studying in Belarus.

Sri Lanka, renowned for its serene beaches and diverse landscapes, offers ideal retreats for travellers seeking tranquility or vibrant nightlife experiences. For example, Sri Lanka beach hotels such as the well-known Cinnamon Bey Beruwala offer a seamless blend of luxury, tranquility, and cultural richness to guests. The ongoing participation of Sri Lankan representatives at the Recreation-2024 International Fair of Tourist Services in Minsk signifies the mutual commitment to fostering tourism ties between the two countries.
