In September this year, Singapore took another significant stride in the digital revolution by introducing biometric immigration processing at all four terminals at its popular Changi Airport. Billed as a token-less clearance programme, this initiative gave residents as well as long-term pass holders the chance to enter the country through advanced iris and facial recognition biometrics. Since showing a physical passport is not needed, there has been a significant reduction in time for the immigration process which is said to be as little as 10 seconds. This system is also expected to be introduced at the Marina Bay Cruise Centre and Seletar Airport in December 2024.
While foreign visitors are still expected to present documentation when they fly into Singapore, they can, however, make use of this new system during departure after registering their fingerprint, facial and iris biometrics. This is yet another plus point that is making the country so attractive for global travellers who are also enjoying stays at modern properties like Novotel Singapore on Kitchener. Not surprisingly, such well-placed hotels near Marina Bay Sands, remain an ideal choice for both business and leisure and will no doubt benefit from the nation’s technological advancements as well.
