Bodu Eid Celebrated in the Maldives – A Key Islamic Holiday

This month saw Maldivians across the country celebrate “Bodu Eid” also known as Eid al-Adha; it is observed on the day after Hajj when Muslims make their yearly pilgrimage to Mecca. Also remembered during this time is the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son at the command of Allah who stopped him before he went through with it. This year, the festival date fell on 9th July with various traditions and customs being followed.

During this time, Muslims customarily begin the morning with the Eid Prayer at the mosque. This period is also a time for families, neighbours and friends to get together, while various special foods are prepared too. There are various music and dance performances held along with cultural events like the “Bodu Mas”. Though this is a public holiday, you can still enjoy plenty of activities when staying at Maldives 4-star resorts on private islands; these include properties such as Holiday Inn Resort Kandooma Maldives that cater to families and couples alike.
