Celebrate Chinese New year in London in Style

It’s Chinese New Year London-style! The celebrations at the English capital are recognized as the largest outside Asia and this year, they were better than ever to welcome the year of the sheep.

The Chinese New Year celebrations are centered on London’s Trafalgar Square, Shaftesbury Avenue and of course Chinatown. If you’re searching for a boutique hotel London close to these sites, consider staying at the Metropolitan by COMO London as it is conveniently located within 10-15 minutes away.

Chinese New Year celebrations kicked off with a bang with a colorful parade of floats, lion and dragon dances that made its way from Duncannon Street to Shaftesbury Avenue. The main stage of Trafalgar Square also came alive with festivities. All streets of Chinatown were buzzing with festive red decorations, traditional dancing and yummy Chinese treats sold from over a 100 of its restaurants, cafés and bars.

Chinese New Year is celebrated at the turn of the Chinese calendar, which is lunisolar and thus is also referred as the ‘Lunar New Year’. This year, the New Year fell on the 19th of February and was named as the ‘Year of the Sheep’.
