The day of Vesak in Sri Lanka is to be Saturday, May 18th. The full moon day in the month of May signifies Lord Buddha’s birth, his enlightenment, and his great passing away. Sri Lanka has a majority of Buddhists; therefore, it is hugely celebrated. Vesak is also about spreading happiness and kindness. On the day of Vesak and the days leading to it, people offer free meals to passers-by.
Every part of the island celebrates Vesak, however, if you’re lucky enough to be staying at hotels in Kandy, Sri Lanka, the likes of Cinnamon Citadel Kandy, you get to witness the splendour and beauty of this special festival in a city filled with culture.
