The Hindu festival in Kataragama, southern Sri Lanka, is a vibrant celebration that lasts over two weeks. This event draws large numbers of visitors to the town. The festival features high festive enthusiasm, with processions of musicians, lavishly garmented elephants, dancers, acrobats, and fire-eaters creating a lively atmosphere. Here, participants and visitors will be able to see many garlands of red flowers offered to Skanda, son of the Lord Shiva, adding beautiful colour to the proceedings.

Engaging in acts of devotion, this event is also known to draw visitors from outside of the country – as Hindu devotees who dedicate themselves here will also have the opportunity to tour Sri Lanka, and experience the breadth of the country through services like Walkers Tours, and see the sights of the tropical island for themselves.
