The Chennai Airport announced in June that it is now fully operating on renewable energy. The airport has powered all its facilities utilising rooftop solar panels and solar energy bought from firms, as well as purchasing power from Tangedco under the green tariff. Consuming an average of 63,92,675 kWh per month, the airport has taken crucial steps to make the airport eco-friendly, with a switch to LED lights and efficiently using the air conditioning, it has cut down carbon emissions by 2200 tonnes.
