China Eastern Flies to Chiang Rai – A Limited Time Service!

China Eastern Airlines, a member of the SkyTeam Alliance, operated a limited time service from Shanghai to Chiang Rai, a popular tourist destination located in the far north of Thailand. The airline offered Chinese tourists, three weekly flights from 2nd February to 12th March 2018.

The series of flights covered the Chinese New Year season, a popular time with holidaymakers. The seats which had to be pre-booked were sold exclusively to Chinese travel companies for their seasonal holiday packages. Chiang Rai was selected especially due to the air traffic congestion experienced at the Chiang Mai Airport; it is located 180 km southwest and happens to be the focal point for package tours to North Thailand from China. Visitors to the region have many Chiang Rai hotels and resorts to choose from including the likes of Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort.
