Officially inaugurated on 3rd December 2021 at the Vientiane Railway Station in the capital of Laos, the China-Laos Railway marked its first anniversary in December 20221. Speaking about this milestone, Sonexay Siphandone, the Lao Deputy Prime Minister, noted that the train service had contributed to the nation’s socioeconomic development; he added that it had helped transform Laos into a key transport hub in the region too.
The railway has helped improve trade between Laos and China, making logistics transportation more cost-effective and faster. Additionally, it has provided convenient transport links for those travelling between the two nations as well as within Laos. The China-Laos Railway has further aided in boosting tourism in the country including providing a hassle-free connection between Vientiane and Luang Prabang; hotels in this UNESCO World Heritage Site such as Avani+ Luang Prabang are within easy reach of the train station too, offering tourists an ideal option to explore this former royal capital of the country.
