China-Thailand Visa-Free Agreement Boosts Tourism Prospects

China and Thailand have taken a significant step towards enhancing their tourism industries by implementing a visa-free agreement. Under this new policy, citizens of both countries can enjoy visa-free entry with a maximum stay of 30 days per visit, allowing for multiple entries within a six-month period and a total stay not exceeding 90 days. The announcement has already spurred a surge in travel interest, with Thai bookings to popular Chinese destinations like Shanghai, Guangzhou, Kunming, and Beijing tripling on travel platforms compared to the previous year. This landmark agreement is poised to have a substantial impact on Thailand’s tourism sector as well as hotels in the country such as Santiburi Koh Samui, as China reclaims its position as the leading source of foreign tourists to destinations such as luxury villas in Koh Samui, with over 1.1 million arrivals recorded in the first two months of 2024. Thailand aims to capitalize on this momentum by targeting 8 million Chinese tourists this year, doubling the numbers from 2023 and reaffirming its commitment to fostering robust bilateral tourism ties.
