Chinese National Day Next Month – Celebrating the Birth of the People’s Republic of China

A key cultural event, the annual Chinese National Day will be observed on 1st October, marking the anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. It was on this day, in 1949, that Chairman Mao Zedong proclaimed the formation of the republic from the Gate of Heavenly Peace in Beijing; it also marked the end of the civil conflict between the Chinese Communist Party led by Mao and the Chinese government at the time.

While the official Chinese National Day is on 1st October it marks the beginning of a week-long holiday. Referred to as the ‘Golden Week’, it provides locals with time to visit their families as well as engage in trips across China. While public areas are decorated during this time, it is also customary for the government to host cultural events, festivities and displays of fireworks. Tourists can look forward to enjoying holidays at this time at various destinations around the country while staying at a well-placed serviced residence; Wuxi, in eastern China, is amongst the well-known cities to explore with properties here like Somerset Taihu New City CBD Wuxi overlooking Taihu Lake providing an ideal base to enjoy such annual celebrations and festivals.
