The Chinese New Year will be held on the 19th of February 2015 and lasts till the 3rd of March. This year is declared as the year of the Goat according to the Chinese zodiac calendar. The first three days of the Chinese New Year are celebrated by lighting firecrackers, performing dragon dances and indulging in traditional cuisines such as dumplings as well as fish which are believed to bring a year of wealth. Families usually have annual reunions the day following the New Year.
Red is considered as the main colour of the festival. It is believed to be an auspicious colour that wades of the evil monster “Nian”. People paint their houses in red and hang lanterns on the streets as a means of celebrating.
