In what will offer easy access from the commercial capital to the country’s hill capital, the proposed development of the Colombo-Kandy Expressway in Sri Lanka is not only expected to provide convenience to commuters and local travellers, but also boost tourism as well. This is mirrored by the recent report put forward by Bartleet Religare Securities (BRS) regarding the hotel and hospitality industry. Kandy has for long been a popular choice amongst tourists with some of the top hotels in Sri Lanka found in this mountainous central region including those belonging to leading name in the hospitality industry such as Aitken Spence Hotels. The report further stated that a favourable benefit of this expressway would be that it would lessen the travel time taken to Kandy from Colombo and the main Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) as well as from the popular beach resorts that can be found along the South Coast.
