Countries Plan for Vaccine Tourism – The Maldives to Promote ‘Vaccine Vacations’

Certain countries are planning to launch what is being called vaccine tourism whereby tourists can receive a COVID-19 vaccination on their holiday. One nation which has already made plans for this is the Maldives, though it has stated this will only take place after all residents are vaccinated. According to Abdulla Mausoom, the Tourism Minister, the focus will be on the ‘Visit, Vaccinate, Vacation’ aspect to encourage more travellers to spend a holiday here.

At the end of June this year, the country has already registered the arrival of 510,549 tourists who had the chance to stay at some of the best resorts in Maldives; such properties on private islands including Grand Park Kodhipparu, Maldives follow enhanced cleanliness and hygiene protocols that make them appealing for tourists looking for safe getaways. Russia is another destination that is planning to start vaccine tourism, while as reported by Reuters on 22nd June 2021, Abu Dhabi has started to offer free COVID-19 vaccinations to tourists.
