Developing Sri Lanka’s wellness tourism industry – European Union Support

The European Union (EU) remains committed to aiding the resurgence of Sri Lanka’s tourism industry. In March, two “Train the Trainer” workshops were conducted to pave the way for the introduction of fresh wellness tourism courses, reaffirming the EU’s role in this endeavour. The primary objective is to elevate the quality standards within Sri Lanka’s wellness tourism sector and establish the nation as a preferred destination for well-being. On March 24, a certification ceremony was held, graced by the presence of delegates from the European Union, the Sri Lanka Wellness Tourism Association, and the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority. This gathering marked significant advancements in the EU-funded project, known as ‘Capacity Development for the Wellness Tourism Industry of Sri Lanka.’

Over 50 participants from various establishments, including hotels, resorts, Ayurveda centres, colleges, and universities, underwent comprehensive training. This multifaceted curriculum covered theoretical and practical aspects, empowering trainers with the skills to guide therapists and spa/wellness centre managers. This development solidifies and enhances service efficiency and quality within the wellness tourism sector. Explore Bentota and stay at hotels like Cinnamon Bentota Beach for an excellent example of the kind of destination the EU’s support is helping flourish.
