Dolphin & Whale Watching Season Begins in the South Coast – A Unique Chance to Spot Marine Mammals

December marks the beginning of the whale and dolphin watching season along the South Coast of Sri Lanka, providing travellers with an exceptional chance to spot these fascinating marine mammals. The area known as Dondra Point is the premier spot for such sightings and there is a high chance of seeing sperm whales as well as migrating blue whales. Dondra Point can be reached from a number of locations along the South Coast including Mirissa, Unawatuna, Galle and Hikkaduwa. For those interested in embarking on such excursions a good option would be to stay at Hikkaduwa hotels such as Citrus Hikkaduwa. The South Coast whale watching season which begins in December, runs up to April with December, January and April being considered the peak months for spotting whales. Apart from whales, the seas around Dondra Point are also where one can see spinner dolphins swimming freely in their natural habitat.
