The second annual D’reesha Performing Arts Festival was held this month in Doha, coinciding with the backend of the 2022 FIFA World Cup which also took place in Qatar. This popular event put the spotlight on the heritage, culture, and language of the region while celebrating international performing arts as well. The festival which ran from 11th to 17th December 2022 was hosted at Oxygen Park in Education City within easy reach of 5-star hotels in Doha; such ideally located properties include Souq Al Wakra Hotel Qatar by Tivoli from where one can access Education City which is planned to be developed into a centre for Arabic arts and culture.
‘Travel & Adventure’ was the general theme of the D’reesha Performing Arts Festival 2022 and covered a range of disciplines with performances encompassing poetry, theatre, music, storytelling, science and more. Interestingly, this event that’s organised by the Qatar Foundation is inspired by the travels and adventures of Ibn Battuta, a Muslim explorer from Morocco who traversed the Middle East and Afro-Eurasia.
