‘Dubai Can’ Sustainability Initiative Launched – Minimising Single-Use Plastics

In February this year, a citywide sustainability initiative named ‘Dubai Can’ was launched by Dubai’s Crown Prince, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. It will focus on aspects such as reducing single-use plastic bottles while looking to inspire UAE residents as well as visitors to follow sustainable practices. The Department of Economy and Tourism in Dubai will be tasked with implementing this initiative which will seek to motivate people to make use of public water stations, refillable water bottles and water filters at home.

As part of ‘Dubai Can’, over 30 water stations have been placed at public hotspots such as malls, beaches, parks, and key attractions which can be accessed by those based at Sheikh Zayed Road hotels; these include properties the likes of La Suite Dubai Hotel & Apartments which makes an ideal base for business or leisure. Such sustainability initiatives are in line with the Dubai 2040 Urban Masterplan and the emirate’s goal of becoming a leading sustainable destination in the world to live, visit and work.
