Economists expect Chinese tourists to boost Malaysia’s tourism – Tourism increases gradually

Malaysian economists are expressing optimism regarding the potential for Chinese tourists to significantly benefit the country’s tourism industry. According to a recent report by PublicInvest Research, China’s role in the global tourism industry’s recovery, including its impact on Malaysia, is expected to be substantial. While the resurgence of Chinese tourists is viewed as a positive development for the ASEAN region, the recovery is anticipated to follow a gradual trajectory. It’s worth noting that, at present, the number of tourists travelling to ASEAN countries has not yet surpassed pre-pandemic levels. The report suggests that while the Chinese government actively encourages tourism, there is a backlog of passport and visa renewals that will take time to clear.

The reopening of China has already led to a significant influx of Chinese tourists to Malaysia.
