Eid – one of the most important religious festivals in the Islamic calendar was celebrated with much pomp and pride in Maldives. The festival which marks the end of the holy month of fasting or Ramadan is celebrated across the Maldives Islands highlighting the importance of the traditions of generosity and hospitality in the Islamic religion. Eid celebrations in Maldives began with the Eid prayer followed by family gatherings and a hearty meal. Celebrations also include visiting relatives, exchanging gifts, modern music concerts and an evening of traditional Maldivian dance performances. However, it is notable that these traditions and celebrations are not only practiced at households but also at many a luxurious establishment and Maldives bungalow such as the Anantara Veli Maldives Resort. Guests lodged at such resorts in the region were given the opportunity to take part and enjoy popular traditions and cuisine during Eid celebrations.
