Fruitful 2024: Sri Lanka Sees 100,000 Arrivals Within the First 15 Days

According to  Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (STDA) reports, Sri Lanka welcomed over 100,000 visitors in the first 15 days of 2024. The official numbers were 101,362, which is a 114 per cent rise compared to the same period last year. The entirety of January in 2023 saw only 102,545 visitors arrive in the island, and having almost caught up to these numbers 2 weeks in, 2024 seems to signal a better year for the industry.

The surge in arrivals has not only contributed to a significant rise in revenue but is also attributed to the reimposition of the Minimum Room Rate (MRR) for hotels. This positive trend follows a successful 2023, during which Sri Lanka welcomed 1,487,303 tourists, marking a substantial 106.6 per cent increase from the previous year and reinforcing tourism as a vital contributor to the country’s foreign revenue.
