The annual Gomphu Kora Festival will be held from 27th to 29th March 2015. The event is held in the eastern region and dates back to the 8th century. The name of the festival is derived from the rock face next to the temple that has been built as a tribute. During the month of March many pilgrims from the area as well as neighbouring regions such as Arunachal Pradesh India, Dakpa tribe in Tawang travel with their families to the sacred site. Legend behind Gomphu Kora is that Guru meditated for 3 days inside the cave to wade off the evil Myongkhapa. Travellers planning to visit the region to witness the festival could consider staying at a Bhutan Hotel such as COMO Shambhala.
