Government to develop domestic airports for tourism and public purposes

The Sri Lankan government is on the process in introducing new civil aviation policy to suit the needs of the country which would include developing domestic airports to enhance tourism and public commercial airline travelling. According to the Minister of Transport Nimal Siripala de Silva, steps have already been taken to build a domestic airport in Batticaloa under the new program. The Road Development Authority will be involved in building new and renovating existing runways and terminal buildings much needed for domestic airports to take off the ground across the key locations of the country. A training academy for pilots at the airport would also be eventually established under the program. This would certainly boost the tourism industry in Sri Lanka and those visiting the main cities of attraction like Colombo which would also mean higher demand for luxury hotels and boutique hotels Colombo boast such as the Colombo Courtyard.
