Holy Prophet’s Birthday Next Month – Maldives Amongst Nations That Celebrate This Event

Next month, Muslims around the world will celebrate the Holy Prophet’s birthday including fully Muslim nations such as the Maldives. This special day also referred to as ‘Mawlid’ or ‘Milad un Nabi’ falls on the Islamic calendar’s month of Rabee-ul-Awwal; interestingly, Sunni Muslims observe this day on the 12th, while Shia Muslims commemorate it on the 17th. Amongst the key Maldives events, the Holy Prophet’s birthday will be commemorated on 27th September 2023 (as observed by Sunni Muslims) on this island nation.

The founder of Islam, the Holy Prophet Muhammad is revered by Muslims the world over and thus the anniversary of his birth is an important day for devotees. In the Maldives, it is customary for Muslims to go to mosques, recite verses of the Qur’an, spend time with family and friends and prepare special dishes. Many of the activities and religious observances can be seen in cities like Male, within easy reach of private island resorts like Hard Rock Hotel Maldives. While this day is a national holiday, such properties make an ideal base for travellers looking to experience the best of this destination and visit Male too.
