Hong Kong preparing for reopening – Quarantine free travel with the Mainland

Hong Kong’s senior authorities have announced that the city is planning for quarantine-free travel for up to 1,000 citizens per day between the city and neighbouring Guangdong province in December, with a view to worldwide travel later this year. This will mean that the residents of Guangdong province will be able to clear customs to Shenzhen or Zhuhai without quarantine. However, they’re required to carry a Mainland number in the event that they or a close contact is identified as a confirmed case, the Mainland authorities can contact them.

As nations throughout the world, including the United States, Germany, France, and Singapore, open up, several international and local business leaders, as well as the expatriate community, have criticized the country’s strict border controls and up to 21-day quarantine. However, with the gradual reopening scheme with the Mainland, Hong Kong authorities state that they will be able to open the country on a “larger scale” mid this year. Meanwhile, if you’re travelling to Hong Kong from outside the Mainland or Macau, you can quarantine at a designated quarantine hotel like Dorsett Wan Chai Hong Kong or any other Wan Chai hotel on the official list released by the government.
