Hong Kong Sees Foreign Arrivals Soar in 2023

City Gets Tourism Back on Track

Following almost three years of strict pandemic-related entry restrictions, Hong Kong has gradually reopened its borders and the response from tourists has been remarkable; in January this year, it welcomed 498,689 travellers which was nearly 70 times more when compared to the same period in 2022. The positive trend didn’t stop there; Reuters reported that retail sales in January rose 7% to $36.2 billion, while there was an increase in the sale of fashion and footwear as well as watches and jewellery. After it fully reopened with China in February 2023, Hong Kong has also seen a rise in Chinese tourists who are known to purchase such products when shopping here.

To attract more international visitors, the “Hello Hong Kong” global tourism campaign was launched in March this year. Amongst the initiatives of this campaign is the giveaway of half a million free round-trip airline tickets which is expected to draw travellers from around the world. Such tourists have much to look forward to as well at destinations such as Tsim Sha Tsui. Family hotel options in this dynamic entertainment and business district of Kowloon such as Park Hotel Hong Kong provide safe accommodation too within easy reach of sightseeing, retail, and dining hotspots.
