How Maldives Became the Post-COVID Travel Success Story – A Safe Haven for Tourists

The Maldives, an archipelago in the Indian Ocean, records over 1.7 million visitors each year under normal circumstances. Once the pandemic hit the country in 2020, the numbers plunged down to 500,000. Despite that, the country has created one of the most successful stories pertaining to tourism amid the pandemic. While many other competitors of the Maldives slammed their borders close, these paradisiacal islands welcomed tourists from the world over since July, last year. The Maldives was reopened in carefully measured steps; however, the country did experience a few minor hiccups from walking back on their decision for unconditional entrance to their country to requiring all travellers to produce a negative COVID-19 test upon arrival.

Many tourist resorts have introduced in-house testing for COVID-19 along with area guides that would help guests to navigate the surroundings without assistance. For instance, Hard Rock Hotel Maldives has facilitated in-house testing along with an Emboodhoo lagoon area guide to make things easier for their guests. These measures by luxury resorts have worked in favour in terms of effective maintenance of pandemic precautions, allowing the country to write its own success story.
