Lining the beach in Mirissa are several joints which are found to be involved in illegal activity. Recently, this has proved to be obstructing tourism in the area, the situation worsened after a few Dutch tourists, especially women were harassed by locals here. President Maithripala Sirisena has taken measures to eliminate these threats to the rising tourism in the area by ordering that these unauthorised buildings be shut down immediately.
The Director-General of the Coast Conservation Department, B.K. Prabath Chandrakeerthi stated that he would see that the investigation will start promptly. Upon inquiring, CCD officials found themselves stumbling upon 18 structures that encourage illegal activity and has taken steps to demolish them. Once this is done, the safety of tourists in the area will be ensured and places like Mandara Resort Mirissa which is a hotel in Mirissa will have no trouble with filling up their vacant spots.
