While international arrivals to Sri Lanka saw a decline in May this year, there has since then been an increase which bodes well for the local tourism industry. As reported on the News First website on 15th June 2022, the Sri Lanka Tourist Development Authority (SLTDA) stated that the arrival numbers were rising again; according to Dhammika Wijesinghe, the Director-General of the SLTDA, more Indian tourists were expected to arrive, while the country has planned various promotional initiatives to attract travellers as well.
In June this year, the SLTDA also stated that the country is looking to record between 800,000 and 850,000 tourist arrivals by the year’s end which will bring in around USD 800 million. With Sri Lanka easing restrictions and offering quarantine-free entry, travellers can enjoy the best of the island once more including at coastal destinations like Tangalle; resort options here such as the ‘Safe and Secure’ certified Anantara Peace Haven Tangalle Resort have stringent hygiene and health protocols in place offering worry-free holidays too.
