Increasing Tourism Earnings in Sri Lanka – Positive Signs for 2022

In the first two months of 2022, the tourism industry in Sri Lanka contributed a little over US$ 582 million to the island’s foreign exchange earnings according to the country’s Central Bank; this was highlighted on 16th March 2022 on the Colombo Page news website which further revealed that 178,834 travellers arrived in Sri Lanka as of 28th February this year. Also highlighted was the fact that in February, tourism earnings reached US$ 314.5 million which was an increase of 17.2% when compared with earnings in January.

It will be hoped this positive trend will continue as more travellers arrive on the island this year. Following the opening of its international borders, the country is offering quarantine-free holidays to fully vaccinated tourists who can experience diverse attractions including idyllic coastal areas such as Mirissa Beach; villa accommodation here right beside the shore can be enjoyed at ‘Safe & Secure’ certified properties like Ubuntu Beach Villas that have stringent health and hygiene protocols in place.
