As per statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism in the Maldives in June this year, India has emerged as the leading source market for tourism. The country took over from Russia which had been holding the top spot from the beginning of 2023. As of 21st June, India’s market share when it came to arrivals was at 11.8%, marginally higher than Russia. Rounding off the top five source markets for the Maldives were the United Kingdom, Germany, and Italy respectively.
Travellers from these nations are continuing to enjoy stays at resorts like The Residence Maldives Dhigurah; for those based at such a private island luxury resort, Maldives getaways for couples and families provide the best of this destination once more. It should be noted that the country has also seen a steady influx of tourists this year with arrivals reaching 886,978 travellers by 21st June 2023. This is indeed a promising sign as the Maldives looks to reach its target of 1.9 million tourists for the year.
