The independence day of Indonesia is one of the most colourful and most anticipated annual events of the country. It is celebrated as a festival on the 17th of August to mark the day which it gained independence from the colonial rule of the Dutch in 1945. Though they gained independence in 1945 it was not until 2005 the Netherlands accepted the date officially. Since then the country celebrates the day ceremoniously with festivities. Celebrations happen all over the country but Bali is considered as the epicentre of all events due to its popularity among tourists. This year’s event in Bali featured a slew of events including parades, community events and exhibitions. Not only locals, but also a number of tourists who were stationed at Bali beach resorts the likes of Anantara Uluwatu Bali Resort also partook in the events.
