According to media reports, Japan will no longer require passengers arriving in the country to provide proof of vaccination or negative test results. The government had initially planned to end these border measures on May 8th but had moved the schedule forward, starting from the 6th of May. However, travellers showing COVID-19 symptoms may be asked to undergo voluntary testing at certain airports.

With the upcoming Golden Week holidays, both domestic and international travel is expected to rebound and approach pre-pandemic levels, continuing through the summer. Additionally, the Tourism Agency announced the removal of vaccine certificates and pre-travel PCR testing requirements for users of government-subsidized travel campaigns from the 8th of May.
